Illnesses And Conditions

2 mins to read Apr 1, 2021

Your excitement for having a new baby may turn into stress if your tot shows any signs of being sick; because despite all your attempts and efforts to protect him, he will always be exposed to illnesses and infections.

Here is a guide to the most common health problems among infants:

Jaundice: A physiological condition caused by a buildup of bilirubin in the blood; and bilirubin is the chemical compound naturally produced by the body’s breakdown of red blood cells, at the end of their lifespan.

Cradle Cap: This condition of deep-red crusty scalp is quite related to the accumulation of oils and dead skin cells. It may be gross to look at, but it’s completely harmless, and that’s the most important thing.

Acid Reflux: According to experts, spitting or acid reflux is a normal condition among infants, particularly after feeding and burping; and it’s likely to go away on its own by the time a child reaches his first birthday.

Diaper Rash: This condition is directly linked to the number of wet and dirty diapers changed during the early period of a baby’s life.

Oral Thrush: This condition of white spots inside a baby’s mouth is a fungal infection that needs to be treated very quickly in order to prevent its spread to other parts of the body.

Diarrhea: It is usually caused by a viral infection, such as Rotavirus.

Colic: Colic and other gastrointestinal problems may be the cause behind the constant long bouts of crying during baby’s early stage of life.

Constipation: Infant’s bowel habits are unique and any change to these habits often indicates constipation. Other symptoms related to constipation may include: blood spots in the diaper and baby grunting and having difficulty passing his stool.

This was a quick overview of the most common health conditions among newborns and infants. Get to know their symptoms and risk factors so you will be prepared to identify what’s ailing your baby and help him get better.
